Business and professional licensing process could be reformed

Georgia's Secretary of State, Brian Kemp, will introduce a new bill in the General Assembly to reform the state's current business licensing process. Annually, about 460,000 people apply for business licenses in Georgia, and Kemp believes his bill could cut the approval process down from months to weeks.

Georgia approves merger for public college system

It is being called a "historic moment" by the Georgia University system Chancellor, as the state's board of regents approved a plan to consolidate Georgia's university system. The merger intends to reduce costs and the number of institutions in the system, down to 31 schools from a previous 35.

Contract dispute continues at new Hartsfield-Jackson Terminal

Attention to detail, as well as a little luck, recently paid off for two vendors vying for a spot in the new Hartsfield-Jackson International terminal, set to open in this spring. The contract dispute began when the city requested proposals for concession tenants, and 41 of the 95 proposals included disqualifying errors.

Companies protest bidding process for new airport terminal

Officials of the Atlanta International Airport believe that barring setbacks, the new Maynard H. Jackson terminal could open in May. With a total of 150 spots for businesses to occupy (126 restaurants and bars, 24 retail shops), the new terminal is expected to generate about $347 million annually in gross sales. But a contract dispute regarding the foreign currency exchange at the terminal threatens to damper the excitement surrounding the new terminal.
