Georgia bread franchise retreats to "rise" above the competition

For some people, opening up a franchise can be a profitable way to make a living. But there can also be downsides to these particular types of business models. One Atlanta, Georgia franchise is experiencing some of those negative aspects now.

Fair Labor Standards Act allegedly violated by restaurant chain

The Fair Labor Standards Act is one of those pieces of federal laws that is enormously complicated and not necessarily always clear in what standards it sets out. The difficulty with complying with this law may have partially been what led a small restaurant chain to being fined by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. Allegedly, the company committed numerous wage and child labor violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act throughout Georgia, Missouri and West Virginia.

Breach of contract suit alleges bad faith against food ministry

One of the vendors for a once-successful food ministry has filed suit against the Georgia company, only weeks after the business was shut down. The ministry had been in the business of helping feed the poor through discounted food sales, and at one point had helped feed half a million families. But now they face a breach of contract suit as one of their suppliers is attempting to collect nearly $80,000 in damages.

Business litigation pits antique store against city council

Georgia business owners may be interested to know of a rather contentious proceeding taking place in the town of Louisiana in Missouri. There, the owners of a store called French Hen Antiques have been caught up in unexpected business litigation regarding the structural integrity of their building. So far, the owners have been ordered to pay more than $500 in court fees and fines. However, that is on top of being ordered to rehabilitate the building, which may cost more than $100,000.
