Personnel policies could change with new insurance laws

In Georgia, business owners are nervously preparing for the new insurance laws that will soon come into effect, likely impacting personnel policies for many small business owners. For example, a restaurant owner in Atlanta now currently offers insurance coverage only for managers. The new laws would require him to change existing personnel policies and offer insurance coverage for all full-time employees.

For this particular business owner, the financial impact of the new laws could range from $50,000 to $400,000. There are a lot of unknown elements about the new changes that make it difficult for a business to get accurate estimates of the potential costs. The new requirement would only apply to business that employ 50 or more Georgia workers.

There is a certain amount of confusion surrounding these new laws and the particular impact that they may have. It seems that there is very little clear information about what the laws mean for the restaurant industry. However, restaurants employ over 10 percent of the American workforce, making it essential that business owners know what is expected of them when the laws become effective.

Some restaurateurs are concerned about the financial fallout that may occur. However, some say it may not be as bad as originally feared because of provisions written within the law to protect business owners. However, the prospect of drastic changes should be reason for business owners to have both sound financial and legal assistance. By having finances properly managed as well as personnel policies and legal matters handled, the impact of any changes may not be as severe as contemplated at first.
