Wage and hour complaint filed on behalf of college athletes

College athletes here in Georgia draw large crowds to their sporting events just as they do in other states. The people around them, including many students, work at the events to earn money. The athletes, however, do not earn anything since sports are considered an extracurricular activity. Some people, however, feel that this violates the Fair Labor Standards Act since other college students are paid for the work they do at their colleges and universities and have filed a wage and hour complaint in federal court against the NCAA and the Division 1 schools around the country.

18 month contract dispute with physicians settled

Any Georgia company that deals with employment contracts can understand how delicate and time consuming negotiations can be. Therefore, it may not be difficult to understand the contentious nature of the contract dispute that has gone on for 18 months between an out-of-state hospital, a physician's union and the medical center's Committee of Residents and Interns. The controversy surrounded a bonus tied to the cost-of-living and a demand for the hospital to establish a fund for doctors to purchase equipment and medications needed for patient care.

Grocers' business litigation set for trial

Georgia readers may be aware that Associated Grocers and Rouse's grocery stores -- which both operate in neighboring states -- enjoyed a long relationship until 2008. Since that time, the two companies have been involved in contentious business litigation. That litigation is finally set for trial before a jury in the coming weeks.

Microsoft asks court to settle contract dispute with Samsung

It is not uncommon for companies to allow other companies to use patented materials, so long as they are paid royalties for their use. Therefore, it may not surprise Georgia residents that Microsoft entered into an agreement with Samsung to allow the company to use some of Microsoft's patented materials relating to smartphones in 2011. Sometime later, a contract dispute erupted between the parties, and Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against Samsung.
