Amazon considering Georgia for a second headquarters

As one of the largest companies in the world, online retailer Amazon is looking to expand their business with an extensive new headquarters. Their site selection team is currently looking at a variety of cities to build their next building in—and bring an estimated 50,000 corporate jobs to the area.

As Georgia officials wait for site visits to happen, they have offered around 70 sites in the Atlanta area for consideration. The actual bid to build Amazon’s secondary headquarters in Georgia is being kept secret under a possible non-disclosure agreement, but the economic development would be the largest in the history of the state. If Amazon did bring a headquarters to Georgia, there are some benefits and drawbacks that residents may face.

Changes that an Amazon Headquarters may bring

  • Influx of economic growth
  • $5 billion in construction deals
  • 50,000 high-paying jobs for residents
  • Increase in commuters on public transportation
  • Create new transportation systems or enhance current ones
  • Job tax credits
  • Attract other big businesses to the area

Is your company prepared for a change like this?

A global company moving in near your small to medium-sized business can bring about many changes. The competitiveness in the local market may hurt your business or the standards for doing business may be affected. It could force upgrades and changes on your business just to stay competitive with such a large company.

Large companies, such as Amazon, may also have an effect on losing employees, the inability to keep great employees who are pulled away to a large company, staying competitive in a shared market, working conditions being questioned, the need for advanced technology or security, and more. If the second Amazon headquarters does come to Georgia, you may be looking at some significant changes coming to your small or medium-sized business.
